Summer Festivities of Early Music
11th International Music Festival
The Rise of Virtuosity
Prague, July 22 – August 8, 2010
The notion of virtuosity will be central to the eleventh annual Summer Festivities of Early Music – though not in a mere sense of astoundingly agile fingerwork or immaculate breath control. For true virtuosity serves beauty, and as a phenomenon can be experienced most profoundly when in harmony with emotion. This summer no fewer than nine musical encounters will feature musicians from all over Europe, all them true masters of their instrument, able to play and sing with technical bravura as well as with profound commitment and humility. In the Hvězda Summer Pavilion, the Troja Chateau, at Brevnov Monastery, Convent of St. Agnes of Bohemia, or at the Martinic Palace, as the case may be, these musicians will transport us back to the age in which the first virtuoso performers were born.
